My Tuesday shift was 11-7 and my Wednesday shift was 3-11 but before leaving on Wednesday morning, I requested the scheduler to be put on the same unit as Tuesday’s shift. I made the request because I had a very sick patient and I wanted to follow up on his condition. But when I went at 3pm on Wednesday, I discovered that the scheduler had not changed my shift so I worked and completed my shift without saying anything to anyone. On Thursday, my unit manager informed me that the Director of Nursing has issued a warning to me because I yelled at the scheduler. The news took me by surprise because I have never yelled at anyone during my entire career with the organization and my record should prove that.
If the scheduler does believe I yelled at her, I am willing to apologize and in fact, I have a very good memory of working with her when she was my Certified Nurse Assistant. I have been with the company for many years as a full-time employee and have always given my best to ensure the best interests of the patients under my care. Even this request was motivated by my concern for the patient who was under my care during Tuesday’s shift. I also believe I should have been given an opportunity to explain myself because there is always a potential of misunderstanding between colleagues and I treasure my working relationships as much as my work. I have always given my best at work and as a loyal employee of the company for many years and I do at least deserve to be listened. The warning has disappointed me because I have always strived for a perfect record and my character has never been pointed at before.
