When the Bully Is a Sibling, Article Review Example

The article “When the Bully Is a Sibling” discusses the manners by which siblings who are abused by their own siblings and how those factors are able to affect them both physically and psychologically. This article, published by the New York Times in June 17, 2013 goes on to talk about how when sibling insult one another (does not even have to be physical implications) the subjected sibling may be just as affected as he or she may have been affected by another individual inflicting pain. The reason as to why sibling abuse should be given so much attention to is because sibling are supposed to know where to draw the line. The fact that sibling abuse leads to psychological problems later one in one’s life should come as an alarm to many adults to pay more attention to their children and the kind of things that they say to one another.

 There exists a fine line between a sibling’s usual fight (i.e., fighting over the remote, or a simple argument that does not escalate). However, it is not difficult to notice when that fine line has been crossed into uncharted territory. It is when this line is crossed that the real offenses start kicking in and individuals begin to have psychological effects on their mind.

 The thing that makes sibling abuse to dangerous is the fact that the individual who is usually being subjected to the abuse trusts the abuser. Because of the fact that the abuser has been around for the abusee’s life most of the time, the individual trusts the abuser and believes that he or she would not do anything that would them at risk. However, this is far from the truth. Those who seek to commit sibling abuse do so for all of the wrong reasons. Because of this, both the abuser and individual being abused necessitate psychotherapy later on in their own respective lives. It is needless to say that there is not a secure way to get rid of sibling abuse once and for all, but a great way to do so would be by warning parents and pay attention to the kinds of things that their children say to each other in their daily lives.
