Academic and Professional Accomplishments, Admission Essay Example

This is a time when technology is accelerating at a momentous rate, none more so than in the field of electrical engineering.  This subject matter has interested me from an early age and I have a strong leaning towards becoming a qualified professional engineer.  At the point in time I am taking college studies under the tutorage of an acknowledged professor in this field.  Particular focus being on research about devices and analog circuitry.  I have excelled in my courses achieving a high grade point average.  It is now time to look forward and it is my desire to complete an M.S. degree program in Electrical Engineering with a leading University in the USA.

I have been brought up with strong family values that have taught me the importance of honesty, integrity and hard work will lead to success accomplishment.  Having built an initial academic foundation in Engineering I now wish to further consolidate this with a recognized and worthwhile Master’s degree program. I would measure this by selecting a University with high academic credentials, excellence in research facilities, a sound track record and help in future career placement.  Equally, I would expect to be challenged and helped in improving learning and performance on an incremental basis.

I have proud of my independence and ability to support myself from an early age.  I have a high degree of work ethic and have always been employed whilst supporting myself through my school and further education.  This has been challenging in terms of getting the right balance between my educational training and supporting myself financially.  This, however, increased my determination in order to succeed and improved both my confidence and self-motivation.  I have spent a significant time doing volunteer work and this is where I have gained a great deal of job satisfaction working with people.

I believe that pursuing a Master’sDegree program will help me to develop the important research skills that are required in order for me to achieve my career objectives of obtaining a position in the field of electrical engineering. In addition I need the tuition and mentorship at postgraduate level in order to enhance and develop the depth and breadth of skills required.  I have developed a special interest in the field of electrical engineering and I would like to focus my studies within that specific area.

In addition to outside reading activities I have tried to broaden my knowledge by attending numerous seminars, conferences and workshops on a wide range of engineering subject matter. This has enabled me to both listen and explore the research activities from a number of prominent scholars in this field. In addition, the US is a world leader in the field of electrical engineering and I believe that by getting the finest education here it will enable me to progress my career objectives within an increasing competitive environment.

During a work experience placement, I had the opportunity  to visit anelectrical engineering firm. The intention of the  visit being to provide me with an improved understanding of  the world of work and the demands that are made upon a worker on a daily basis. Throughout my stay  I was treated like any other employee and the experience exceeded all of my expectations. As we were all reliant on one another, it was necessary to communicate with  each other and discuss both the progress and challenges represented such that were able to work within a team environment and achieve mutual goals.  This interaction was extremely helpful in understanding the importance of synergy in the workplace. The involvement with both team work and group dynamics was a major contribution in helping me to improve my interpersonal skills and gain an improved understanding of the requirements of clients and co-workers; as such geared towards meeting the company organizational objectives.I have gained some intial work experience in research as a Lab Assistant.  This has included work components as follows:

• Exploration methods for attaining optomechanical resonators with simultaneous high optical Q o and high mechanical Q M , plus optomechanically reduced mechanical noise, for use as ultra-low-noise microwave oscillators for chip-scale atomic clocks and sensors.
• Member of the project to design the optimechanical resonator used in chip-scale atomic clocks. It utilizes light pressure to alter mechanical motion within an optomechanical cavity that confines both mechanical and optical modes.
• Built and optimized testing procedures by labview.
• Used labview to test samples by light-induced damping on resonators constructed of non- optical materials by tunable laser, polarization and wavelength control to meet project specification optical Q. Pull fibers, design and optimize pulling process to get a high power transmission rate.

I do feel that I am capable of accepting the challenge of a demanding University course and that that I have both the strength of character and determination to achieve a successful end result. My study preferences are for electrical engineering devices and analog circuits.  I have experienced some low grade point averages in subjects that have formed an integral part of specific school requirements but I have managed a standard of excellence in the electrical engineering classes.

I am fully aware of the excellent reputation that your school has in electrical engineering. Conversations with several of your alumni have deepened my interest in pursuing post-graduate studies at your institution.  I realise that in addition to the excellent faculty your computer and scientific facilities are amongst the best in the state. In addition your postgraduate degrees in engineering are highly valued by both the Academic and Scientific research community. In this regard I hope that you will give earnest consideration to my candidature for postgraduate study at your fine institution.
