Academic Probation, Admission Essay Example

My transition from Delta College to University of California, Davis didn’t go as planned because I was struck with serious health issues early in the semester that affected my academic commitment. As a result, I was placed on academic probation. I applied to get my grades removed and presented doctor’s notes to support my casebut my application was officially denied. It did disappoint me but it didn’t break my spirit. As soon as I recovered, I studied hard and succeeded in considerably improving my GPA.

I will continue to strive to further improve my GPA and I believe I have a great potential for success in the Masters program. After completing my Masters, I aim to apply into a PhD program. Being placed into an academic probation was disappointing experience but it happened due to circumstances beyond my control. It may be strange to say it but I still treasure the experience because it helped me learn things about myself I would not have learnt otherwise. It showed me that I am capable of bouncing back. I do regret the impact of probation on my GPA but I also learnt that perseverance is one of my defining character traits.

Disappointments are part of life but one only fails when he/she gives up. When things don’t go our way, we just have to work extra hard. I hope you will understand my unique situation and take into account the improvement in academic performance that occurred after I recovered from my health issues.
