Admission Chemical Engineering, Application Essay Example

One of my most important accomplishments was achieving the “The Elite Scholarship for Advanced Technology”.  The “Elite Scholarship” is offered to young UAE students who excel in the science, technology, engineering or Math subjects.  The scholarship opens doors for students who strive to further their education and gain hands-on experience in their desired field.  I was one of 20 students chosen for this scholarship out of 1000 applicants.  I am humbled that I was chosen; however, I know that I worked extremely hard for the scholarship. My interest in chemistry and engineering pushed me to work hard and become a top ranking student.  I knew that I needed to not only rank at top of my class, but I needed to gain scientific experience as well. I participated and took part in the development of a novel two month long engineering research project.  The country in which I grew up in is mainly desert habitat, in addition to not being developmentally and technologically advanced; therefore, water scarcity is a problem.  My research partners and I developed an engineering material, in which we named hydramore, composed of recycled home materials.  The purpose of this technology was to help conserve irrigation water.  We placed the material under specific species of plants and trees.  The results of our study were analyzed statistically and there was a significant difference in the amount of water conserved in areas using the hydramore versus areas that did not use the hydramore.  The results of our study prompted us to participate in Japan’s Super Science Fair.  University professors were excited about our outcome and were interested in specific methods.  In fact, one professor said, “I hope you are planning on a career in engineering”.  From that point on, my goal became to take every extra effort I needed in order to attend a University and obtain my degree in chemical engineering.
