Activity 1

Over time, I have strived to build my professional experiences through learning and practicing the acquired skills and knowledge in real life. I have participated in several tutoring and mentoring positions where I have worked closely with my students to help them apply their majors, navigate research experiences, develop management skills, and prepare and complete homework assignment and tests. Additionally, my goal throughout this experience has been to promote academic achievement, retention, and successful graduation, especially for underrepresented minorities, poor and first-generation students. With the higher academic achievement, they have higher chances of being admitted to graduate institutions. Overall, I have provided students with support and mentoring to prepare them to prepare for project, tests, and ensured they are ready to connect with experts in their respective fields.

Activity 2

At UDSM, I worked as a scribe; during my shift, my role was to work alongside medical professionals. UDSM is a social service organization that provides housing and shelter families for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The organization has designed various programs to offer people with shelter and help them regain stability, return to permanent housing, and reduce cases of people living as homeless. We worked in rotations around the university district where the homeless people live. During our visits, we meet the homeless individuals laying down on streets with very limited resources. For instance, they lacked basic needs such as food, shelter, clothes, toothbrushes. As the medical professionals start examining them, my task was to record details of the medical exam and to fill the tally sheet of the supplies that were provided. This experience helped gain insight into the health disparities we have in the US and issues homeless people face.
