Are the methods valid/ trustworthy?
| 1. Was the research question clear? Was there need to study adequately substantiated? Explain. | The research question was clear but not substantiated due to the sampling limitation of using one geographical location. |
| 2. What was the design of the study? How were the data collected (one time (cross-sectional) or repeated overtime (longitudinal)? What were limitations of the data collection methods? | The research study design is observation. It is a secondary analysis of data obtained from a study of the influences of selected psychological variables, on blood pressure in children who are between 9 to 11 years old. It suggests correlations and specifies the areas of study; hence the data collection is cross-sectional. This data collection cannot accommodate the psychological changes over time. Multiple hypotheses support a single correlation. |
| 3. Describe the sample. How the sample was selected (eligibility criteria)? How is the sample representative of the population? | The sampling is systematic. Only children who are between 9 and 11 years old were selected. The data also represents children whose BMI is equal or greater than 85th percentile of the gender-specific charts. This shows that the selection criterion is eligible. |
| 4. Describe the variables of interest. If there was a comparison group, on what variables were the groups compared? How were the groups similar? How were the groups different? If it is a correlation study, on what variables are associations being examined? The test of significance provided answers for the relationship in the variables of interest and blood pressure. |

| 1. What were the findings? | Analysing the data by gender did not show any significant difference between males and females on any of the variables. There are relatively high levels of trait anger compared to levels of anger suppression, and anger- out, higher levels of stress and anger reflection/control. Health providers need the access of trait anger, stress and patterns of anger among the children when looking for ways of preventing blood pressure. |
