Munichin in the issue of contribution of factors of social relations on psychometric health identifies certain family processes associated with disease activity.  According to this model, the maintenance and development of these symptoms in children are connected to family interaction patterns. It is also noteworthy that these patterns affect the psychological vulnerability of the child. This bio behavioral family model forms the basis of several advances in the field and stands out as the most relevant concept for both adolescence and children experiencing somatizing disorders. Bio behavioral family model originates from the psychosomatic family model although the two models have clear distinctions (Maria, Ourania, Panoraia & Beatrice, 2012). The psychosomatic family model follows psychosomatic lines while the bio behavioral model uses a complex of interaction of the family.

The bio behavioral family model uses the conceptualization of disease and embraces the psychological mind and body perspective. The concept of bio behavioral family model dictates that the family emotional climate, parent child relationships, parent -parent relationships, and biological activity influence each other and collectively contribute to the psychological factors that influence disease and illness that is stress related. The implication is that these casual effects are circular but focuses on the Childs emotional and physical outcome. Family emotional; climate implies the valence and intensity of emotional exchange. Several factors influence the emotional climate and these include the proximity, which implies the extent at which the family members share personal space emotions and information. General hierarchy, which implies the extent the caregivers are in charge, also plays an essential role. The two concepts of general hierarchy and proximity inform Munich’s construction of boundaries. Behavioral reactivity plays a central role in the development of bio behavioral family model and links emotional and psychological processes to diseases. This denotes the intensity and manner, which an individual in the family responds to emotional, psychological, and behavioral stimuli. Relational security, on the other hand, provides for a construction related security where the significance of putting together family systems and attachment form the basis of the security. Considerably attachment security finds its way into the process of bio behavioral family model as it mediates the impact of disease.  The concept of triangulation, which involves family members incorporating or rejecting another member of the family, forms a crucial aspect of bio behavioral family model as the triangulation affects the individual emotionally.

According to Maria et al., (2012) the theory put forward by Bowen incorporates the process of going into the interpersonal relationship with an individual and going into the relationship space between people.  This concept identifies aspects of emotional relations in the process. The bio behavioral family model not only describes the element that informs the family emotional climate but also provide for interaction with one another. The perspective of Bowen shows a close relationship with the bio behavioral family model and goes further to provide a development perspective. The use of Bowenian theories in the intervention process addresses relational aspects of patient’s difficulties through the development of competence and confidence and assists the patient see things clearly. It is imperative that the theory of Bowen is different from other theories as it looks into the human behavior and originates from the understanding of natural systems.  It looks into the emotional aspects of human beings and assumes that the emotional functioning of an individual affects others in a practical way.  The introduction of emotional forces of differentiation and togetherness by Bowen provides the idea of putting others before self and places emphasis on the individual in regard to the definition. Differentiation implies the ability to maintain emotional objectivity by the individual in instances of emotional confusion.  Accordingly, problems occur when the concept of differentiation is compromised by family and personal factors especially through emotional cut off and parental differentiation. The conceptualization of Bowen also highlights the instances where they offer mechanisms for the family members to interact and, as a result, emotional influences inform the individual’s body state. Most of the emotional processes of the family reflect on the individual’s anxiety driven and unconscious responses, which include the bodily and emotional processes. Poor differentiation is attached to individuals whose emotional reactivity is high and finds it difficult to think about their feelings and behavior. These individuals lack the distinction between their thoughts and those of other within a model.

Differentiation goes along with responsivity considered at both the family and the individual levels. Interpersonal responsivity at the family level provides refers to the extent at which individual responds to the psychology emotion and behavior of another while the individual level signifies the responsiveness of the individual to psychological stimuli (Maria et al.,  2012). Bowen’s model puts into context the processes that influence the individual’s psychology and illustrate the mechanisms that family relational patterns as well as psychosomatic symptoms follow. The use of the Bowens approach to highlight the various factors that influence illness the intervention looks into the differentiation and targets family relational matters.
