For a Medical School, Personal Statement Example

My ultimate desire, since I was 11, has been to pursue medicine and become a doctor. Co-founding a publication with a focus on mental health, highlighted my passion in the field. Through the publication, I encouraged students to manage their budgets to void anxieties. I care about the people around me more than I do for myself, which is a critical trait for aspiring doctors. In 2015, I lost my brother in August and then followed my grandparents in November, but I overcame this. I have dedicated my time to serving the community through volunteering and involvement in programs that positively impact the community.

I am an Honors graduate and certified CPR, IACUC, Medical Assistant capable of undertaking medical procedures. I am bilingual in English and Arabic and proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Adobe Flash, Excel, able to type 70 WPM and analyze data. I possess laboratory skills in medical technology, clinical, and microbiology. These skills and qualifications give me a solid background for medical school. I have worked as a peer tutor to assist students with English needs. I also worked in Jonny Lowes’ restaurant as a general laborer, handling communication, managing stock, and performing routine services across departments. I held the Student Government Senator’s position, where I handled the budget, mainly overseeing fundraising and managing finances.

I was involved in practical research under mentors; Dr. Nancy-Liu Sullivan and Dr. Abdeslem El Idrissi, who fueled my passion for deep research, and I got the opportunity to practice the theoretical concepts learned in class to perfect my skills. I worked at Eqypt Air Hospital, Richmond University Medical Center, Cleopatra Hospital, R-Endocrinology Hamilton Township, and Staten Island University Hospital. The experiences enhanced my understanding of medical care issues, healthcare management, legislations, government procedures, and regulations.
