Graphic Design, Admission Essay Example

Growing up as a little girl I remember watching my mother work on her art in her studio. I was entranced by the designs she would come up with and the creative process that each piece entailed. As I grew up I began to experiment with my own creative side and practiced with various mediums to see what connected with me best. I tried painting, drawing, photography, and even sculpting but nothing captivated me like graphic design. When I discovered graphic design I felt like my imagination and creativity had free-reign over the canvas I was working with, and the designs I came up with were awe-inspiring.

From the first time I started clicking a mouse in Illustrator I knew I wanted to pursue a career in graphic design. The ability to work in a field that allows me to combine my intellect with my creativity both excites and intrigues me. The graphic design courses I was exposed to in high school allowed me to gain experience in the field and affirm my decision that the graphic design field was the right field for me.

I am eternally grateful that I was exposed to art at an early age and was able to develop my skills both at home and at skill. Art is an incredibly under-funded department within the education system of the schools in the United States, and I consider myself lucky for the knowledge I have in the field of graphic design. However I am eager to learn to more. I would greatly appreciate a chance to be a part of Miami International University’s Graphic Design program so that I can continue my education in the arts.
