Meaning of College Education, Admission Essay Example

When we are young, we often believe what we are taught by the family and see the world through our elder’s eyes. Since I have been young, I have been a critical thinker which may be why I enjoy learning about new things and read on a variety of subject matters including business, history, politics, cultures, science, and technology. But I soon realized from my social experiences that there is more to learning than just reading books. We can learn as much by meeting people, especially those from different cultures and different opinions, as we learn from books. This is because by talking to other people, we become aware of different perspectives as well as assumptions that exist in other cultures.

This is why I value college education because it not only provides us formal education necessary to survive in the real world on our own but also challenges us to think independently and challenge our stereotypes and prejudices. College education also teaches us that it’s ok to question and it’s ok to have different opinions. It also gives us an opportunity to interact with other people from diverse backgrounds who help us expand our thinking horizon and become more open minded. I especially like the idea of general education because the world works in a complex manner and the more we have knowledge on different subject matters, the better we understanding global and local affairs. College education encourages us to test our learning in the real world and there is no better way to test theories and ideas.
