Millions: Major Movie Themes and Elements, Movie Review Example

Pages: 1

Words: 346

Movie Review

The movie revolves around two major themes that are connected (1) money and (2) greed. This is because the story revolves around Damian finding a bag of money that was flung from a train. The movie depicts the challenges that Damian faces at first and after showing the money to his brother, Anthony, who chooses to spend the money frivolously. Anthony on the other hand exercises small acts of kindness to the poor and within society.

Allusion

One of the most interesting elements of the movie is the director’s choice of allusion found throughout the movie. The director, Danny Boyle, has largely been renowned for developing movies of a genres much different than this one, mainly, action and horror movies. As such, followers of Danny Boyles work would notice a number of scenes from the movies that allude to some of his previous works. For example, there is a scene where there is a series of train speeding by Damian and Anthony. This alludes to similar scenes in Trainspotting. There is a scene where a man hides in the attic. This is reminiscent of the movie Shallow Grave. The protagonist’s name, Damian, is also the similar to the protagonist from The Omen series of movies.

Characters

The choice of the two main characters, Damian and Anthony reflects an interesting difference between brothers that is not expected. The tow main characters, though brothers, depicts completely different characters and personality. While Damian is the more sensible and charitable brother, Anthony is liberal in his thinking and believes that money is a solution to their problems. Damian believes the money is a means to help the weak in society.

Visuals

The movie has notably superior visuals, as expected of Danny Boyles films. He effectively employs a number of visual tricks to show the audience the events unfolding through the characters’ eyes. He uses this imagery to effectively show what Damian sees, such as the boogeyman, latter-day saints, train robbers and peripatetic martyrs.
