Obama Administration to Investigate Insurers for Bias Against Costly Conditions, Article Review Example

Ever since his election into office, President Obama has had a strong administration that advocates healthcare benefits to every person without discrimination. Through this view in mind his administration has begun to investigate insurers for possible discriminations to people with chronic conditions such as psychological disorders and autoimmune diseases.

Taking an analytical perspective into the discussion within the article, I truly agree with the intent of the Obama administration. Having first-hand clinical experience myself, I have observed the struggle that patients with these chronic illnesses go through, striving to pay for their medications. Studies in the American Journal of Medicine have also been published, depicting the death rates of these patients due to their inability to pay their medications. Moreover, these patients also end up in jail often as a result of their inability to control their psychological disorders which ultimately leads them to commit crimes. Zero discrimination is a fundament found within our Constitution that is responsible for our nation’s continued success over the centuries. Obama has established an administration seeking to provide healthcare benefits to American citizens and discrimination against people with chronic diseases must be addressed so that the administration may comply with its stated purpose. The main diseases that were addressed within the article were psychological disorders and autoimmune disorders. The people with these diseases were being discriminated against because the co-pay or the amount they had to pay after what the insurance covered was about fifty percent. This made it very difficult for most of the patients with these disorders to have the capabilities to pay for their medications. The Obama administration declared that if most of the medications necessary to treat a single disease were on the range of the highest co-pay, then discrimination was being held against patients with this disease.
