Original Generation of Indian-Americans, Personal Statement Example

Being an original generation of Indian-Americans who believed in selflessness, hard work, passion, and humility eminently helped me acquire a strong personality that is very significant in medicine. The character played a vital role in helping me soar to greater medical heights. The qualities helped me withstand the hardships associated with my family, which experienced a high keg precariousness case due to my father’s irresponsible acts.

The traumatic experience affected my childhood upbringing, thereby instilling fear in me, resulting from the incidences of anger, belittlement, and emotional abuse that resulted from my father’s actions. My father was abusive to the family members since he was addicted to the keg powder that impaired his judgment, making him mentally and emotionally abuse any family member.   In addition to woes, my grandma unceremoniously passed on under my watch making the situation to be more complex and challenging. My grandma’s unfortunate demise worsened my traumas. She helplessly succumbed to cancer under my watch.

Grandmother died due to a late diagnosis of the cancer infection that had mutated to the last stage, leaving the doctors with no option to explore to rescue her life. She was left dead since no amount of treatment or doctor’s intervention would help stop the unthinkable from happening.

In a nutshell, grandmother’s situation had gotten out of hand, and the only solution was waiting for the time she would join our ancestors. This did not go well, considering that I grew up in a culture where you sacrifice your interest for another, and I had never been in a situation where I had to watch someone suffer helplessly and offer no help. The case was made worse with the fact that the victim who was suffering was my lovely grandma. This made my mind blow, and I could not hide my feelings on the medical sector’s failure, which in my opinion, had failed in rescuing the life of my old folk. At this point, I was hard hit with the thought of practicing medicine to help reduce such cases of helpless deaths. I was very determined to work hard to improve the health sector if I ever get close to practicing medicine.

The traumatic upbringing greatly influenced my exposure to the world of medicine. Traumatic conditions that I experienced resulted from an abusive upbringing and my grandma’s sudden death that occurred in my full glare. It is therefore very evident that it is the entire trauma that exposed me to medicine.

Apart from the factors that exposed me to medicine, it is also imperative to mention that my culture and childhood nurturing did miracles in planting for a lifestyle focused on offering services to others. This decision to join the medicine discipline to lessen the implications of the trauma. It is also critical to note that my grandma’s abrupt death was also a factor that convinced me to join the field to help reduce the possible reoccurrence of such incidence.

I have been working round the clock to ensure that I realize the dreams of helping citizens and ensuring that careless deaths are not recorded in the health sector. I have enrolled with health consultation agencies to acquire guidance and counselling techniques that I plan to use to help clients experiencing psychological problems like trauma, depression, and stress. Additionally, I am focused on my medical studies to ensure that I gather the correct information to ensure that my patients receive the best medical experience. This forms the primary basis for attending SGU, acquiring the required skill set and knowledge critical in ensuring exceptional performance.
