Pediatrics, Personal Statement Example

I started my current job at Arlington, VA-based Advanced Dialysis Center in June 2011 when I was still pursuing my B.S. in Biology (pre-med) at Virginia Commonwealth University. In this job, I have had the opportunity to be involved in both operational and administrative tasks which has given me a better understanding of the current state of the healthcare sector. One of the trends I have noticed is a greater emphasis on preventative healthcare which doesn’t only improve the overall quality of life of the patients but also help contain ballooning healthcare costs at national level. This realization has been instrumental in my desire to specialize in pediatrics because I enjoy working with children and second, I hope to positively influence them to adopt healthy lifestyle choices that help them achieve optimal physical and mental health for the rest of their lives.

I have decided to get involved with interprofessional academic achievement program because it will provide me with strong foundation for graduate studies and ensure I get the most out of all learning opportunities available to me during graduate studies. It will give me a realistic picture of future academic experiences and, thus, help me develop an effective plan to prepare for them.

In addition to being a healthcare professional in pediatrics, I also hope to be an educator because I believe many parents make costly mistakes when raising their children due to lack of access to reliable and easy-to-understand information. To achieve a goal, one has to have a good understanding of all the relevant stakeholders, thus, I want to actively involve parents in raising the health status and quality of life of our children around the country.
