Purdue University, Admission Essay Example

Background

I moved to the United States in 2003 and since that time both my brother and sister have graduated from the University. I have shared their dream in equally graduating from this prestigious University. I have always aspired towards qualifying in Engineering and obtaining a B.Sc. degree in that discipline. I have an extremely good background in mathematics and science and this is the foundation that I wish to build upon in my quest for a degree in Engineering. I believe that graduating from Purdue will help me achieve my work ambitions in my life after college.

I have always been inspired by Neil Armstrong who also graduated from Purdue West Lafayette. I would like to spend the next 4-5 years in academic study building my knowledge in Engineering. I believe that Purdue will provide me with the academic platform that will help launch my career. I am very committed towards my ambition of becoming a qualified Engineer and I believe graduating from Purdue will be an important milestone in that journey.

In the selection of a career, I looked at a number of different options and finally settled on developing a career in engineering. Although I have not had a great deal of exposure to this field, I want to gain a solid academic footing as the foundation to build up a career in engineering. I believe the B.Sc. program will provide this foundation and help me to achieve a suitable graduate entry position in a large multi-national business

Philosophy

It is my belief that globalization in the business world will help to define the qualified engineer in both domestic and international business. The Engineer will have to be a multi-faceted individual that can converse in a number of languages, including English. In addition, will need a strong understanding of cultures and people in different countries and be adept at dealing with local decision making having the ability to often deal with a number of conflicting needs. As such, it is important to learn the different leadership styles, particularly that of the transformational leader, in order to apply these in a practical setting. A balanced degree like that of Purdue will assist in these objectives.

I selected your business school owing to the first class reputation it has obtained in the field of Engineering. I was particularly impressed with the library and research facilities, together with the high degree of sophistication in Information Technology. As such I believe the school reflects my needs of an educational background for the 21st Century Engineer. The school also has an excellent tutorial staff with leading academics in the field of Engineering.

My strong ambition to succeed is matched with my enthusiasm to do well in terms of accomplishment on this program. I have confidence that I possess the dedication and personal commitment towards hard work and achieving my goals. The B.Sc. Program will help me to acquire professional and cutting-edge analytical skills, sound business knowledge and development of modern engineering skills.  This will be a solid foundation that I can build upon in the development of practical skill training once I have completed the B.Sc. program

The Engineering School will also assist in my development of a peer group and building of a network of like-minded business professionals. This promotes team building and lifelong friendships that extends beyond University into the business world.  In addition the Alumni society assists in maintaining contact with the Engineering School and continues the professional relationship into the career development lifecycle in the business world.
