Is there enough information in the article to determine its accuracy?

  • I believe that this article does exemplify enough information to determine its accuracy, however, I do believe that the actual case is the most significant factor within its accuracy. Every case is different, and every individual has a different motive. Therefore, each individual may have a different motive, and some could be getting off the hook for an arson they may have committed and some may actually be innocent.  Nevertheless, I think the arson cases that were mentioned within this article weren’t researched and examined enough, which is a main factor in reopening cases.  If all the arson were carefully examined scientifically than the cases wouldn’t need to be reopened.

Does the information have a bias?

  • Most definitely. The information that is described in this case is exemplifying bias because the scientists aren’t carefully examining the crime scenes. This ultimately will convict innocent bystanders of committing arson crimes that they may have not committed.

Does the information show evidence of scientific method?

  • Yes and no. I believe the information within this article is supposed to demonstrate the correct scientific method. However, the scientists who are examining these cases aren’t correctly demonstrating the scientific method.  For example, if scientists examined these cases correctly, using the scientific method than the innocent individuals wont suffer for crimes they didn’t commit.

What is the long-term impact of this information on humans?

  • I think this article will demonstrate a long-term impact on humans because scientists will be forced to investigate fires more carefully. Also, individuals who are accused of arson, although they are innocent, is impacted long-term because the gained a criminal record, may have spent time in jail and also are viewed as a negative person to others.

Could you use the information in the article to personally improve your life?

  • I don’t think so. Of course if I as being accused of arson I could, but hopefully that will never be an issue. However, I realize how vital investigations are for any scientific case because if wrongful information is passed along it could hurt a lot of individuals.
