Roosevelt University, Admission Essay Example

Three people have had a huge influence on my life in terms of pursuing advanced education and the reason I am applying to Roosevelt University. The first one was my high school teacher in Iran who always advised her students that education is the only way to overcome challenges and earn respect in a male dominated society. She believed that education will help women become independent by having a career of their own and achieving financial freedom. She also emphasized that a society can’t progress until women get education because mothers usually have more impact on their children because they spend more time with them. Men who have independent and educated mothers are more likely to support the cause of women rights in the society. I would like to emphasize that high school education is segregated on the basis of gender in Iran so there are no co-education schools.

The second person to inspire and encourage me to apply to Roosevelt University is my cousin. She did her Masters from Roosevelt University, then attended a reputed medical school from where she got her MD. She had a brilliant academic career and specifically recommended Roosevelt University because she knows me very well on a personal level and is familiar with my academic background and achievements.

The third person who inspired me to seekfurther education is my supervisor. We have done research on cellular and molecular mechanisms which are responsible for the impairment of gender-based cardiovascular protection in premenopausal diabetic females. I had already worked at her lab for few months when she encouraged me to seek advanced education. She told me that she sees a huge potential in me to become a very successful researcher should I decide to pursue further education. She often told me she admires the fact that I am very curious. According to my supervisor, I am not afraid to ask questions or propose hypotheses and investigate them no matter how unlikely they may seem at first. She would often say that for a researcher it is as important to ask questions as it is to find answers. In addition, limitless curiosity is one of the researcher’s greatest strengths. Some of the best scientific discoveries have come from the least suspected areas.

I would like to mention that I intend to pursue PhD after completing my Masters. Thus, Masters will not be the end of my academic career. I treasure the trust, the above mentioned individuals have put in me and desire to exceed their expectations. Please do not hesitate to let me know should you have any questions.
