Rubbish Problem in Hong Kong, Speech Example

Pages: 1

Words: 393

Speech

Imagine that you live next to the landfill in Tseung Kwan O. Your home is surrounded by rubbish. A sharp smell permeates everywhere. There is constant noise disruption. If you could do something to improve your living situation, would you? Most people would answer “yes” to this question, but are not sure how to act. Hong Kong produces 6 million tonnes of rubbish each year. To make matters worse, our only current solution to this problem is to dump this rubbish in our landfills, which will be saturated by 2019. If nothing is done, Hong Kong will become overwhelmed with displaced rubbish, contributing to unbearable hygiene and health problems. Everyone, then, would suffer like our friends in Tseung Kwan O. This is not a Hong Kong we want to see. So, how can this problem be solved? It is imperative for us to find new ways to reduce waste and protect our city and its people. Right now, our rate of rubbish production is unsustainable. We must take action to see that it does not harm us. The sooner we act, the sooner we will be able to protect the lives of our fellow citizens.

To quickly reduce the rubbish problem, we must incinerate our rubbish safely and effectively. Use of the Integrated Waste Management Facilities Incinerator is an ideal solution to Hong Kong’s rubbish problem because it has the ability to treat 3,000 tonnes of rubbish each day. The incinerator would also reduce the size of each tonne of rubbish by over 95%.  But, how would this support the health of Hong Kong residents? The incinerator will minimize civilian disruption because it removes all waste gases produced from incineration. Furthermore, the incinerator can be placed on an outlying island. This will eliminate worry about living near dangerous waste. Thus, we must advocate for the immediate availability of this incinerator.

The IWMF facility is cutting edge technology that marks the beginning of a new era in waste management in Hong Kong. To create meaningful change, we must advocate for the use of the IWMF facility. Together, we can take small steps that will contribute to a significant change. If we act right now, we will be able to resolve our rubbish problem. If you act now to support the IWMF incinerator, you will support a healthier Hong Kong and a brighter future for us all.
