Russian Student, Admission Essay Example

I am originally from Russia, currently enrolled in a study abroad program. My grades suffered in the beginning due to lack of proficiency in English language but I have significantly improved my grades as my performance in the third year of the program demonstrates. First year was pretty challenging due to lack of English proficiency that would often make me feel out of place and even led to certain unfortunate discipline issues. I cannot change anything about my past but I can work hard to ensure a better future. I had never heard of lacrosse before enrolling in the program and now I plan to pursue it at college level.

I have learnt in the past two years that we cannot change for the better unless we are willing to learn from mistakes. This is why I have adopted reading as one of my hobbies and Math and American History are one of my favorite subjects even though I plan to major in English. Reading on a variety of subjects has expanded my perspectives and has also helped my improve my language proficiency in English. I love this thing about America that you can always put your failures behind to start a new phase in your life and I am convinced that XYZ University is the best fit to my objectives and goals. I am particularly attracted by the diversity of students on campus and numerous campus organizations that engage with the community. I look forward to start an exciting chapter in my life and hope that you will give me an opportunity to build a better future which also involves giving back to the university and the community.
