Movie Review

The Star Trek Into Darkness is about the space crew of the Enterprise is summon back home for a deadly mission. The Star Trek Into Darkness introduces some new technology such as the Space Suit that endures extreme volcano heat. Dr. Spock is dropped in the middle of an erupting volcano to complete his mission (IMBD 1).To those that are in disbelief that Dr. Spock could wear a space suit that could withstand temperatures. The NASA built space suits in preparation for new planets with cold and heat levels unlike Earth. The technology behind Dr. Spock is accurate because these suits have been evolving since 1964(History NASA 4).

The technology was an obvious glimpse of NASA technology using Cold-Fusion and Cyro-Sleep Chambers powered by nuclear power. NASA has built a prototype of a spacecraft that is powered by cold fusion (NASA Langley as cited Physics Buzz, 2013). The 72 mission torpedoes in the movie represented new technology that could concentrate a blast in space with controlled power. This was the most obvious futuristic technology that was more impressive than the Enterprise space ship.

The closest parallel to real issues of global energy resources needed to preserve the earth of natural resources. The “Cold- Fusion Bomb” that Dr. Spock used to freeze the hot volcanos. However, when venturing to planets millions miles away from Earth has already verified atmospheres with extreme cold and hot planets. The technology with the “Cold-Fusion Bomb” has a place in futuristic space travel. The Cold-Fusion Bomb technology will allow astronauts to explore planets that may be too cold or hot for human exploration. In addition, the evolving space suit allows astronauts to research parts of the universe that have been considered too cold or too hot. In the future is it feasible that Cold-Fusion Bomb and evolutionary Spacesuits would help space exploration. The third piece of technology was the Cyro-Human Sleep Chamber that allowed Khan to sleep for 300 years. Most of the technology in the movie was closely related to current futuristic technology or future technology that will be coming to the real world soon.

Rhetorical Situation

Cold Fusion technology is supposed to be a hypothetical type of nuclear. The technology to be examine is the use of Cold Fusion as an energy resource for the world. However, this technology could be used as an energy resource to replace dependence on oil. The global technologies are already in place that use nuclear energy for futuristic solutions. The audience would be scientist and all nations seeking options to reserve earth’s natural resources. In the movie, both the Cyro-Sleep Chambers and the Cold-Fusion are powered by nuclear technology.

Ethical Implications

The ethical complications would be United States using a deadly nuclear weapon as energy while trying to keep other countries like North Korea from building weapons of mass destruction. This may open the door for catastrophic results allowing the world to build nuclear weapons for energy trade-offs. In the movie the Cold-Fusion was necessary to save the world, thus any weapon that help save the planet is worth utilizing.

Diversity/Sustainability Considerations of Cold Fusion

The Cold-Fusion is not a far-fetchedfuturistic technology. In the start of the movie, the Volcano screen with Cold Fusion was a look into the future. According to the Journal of Nuclear Physics, the NASA cold fusion technology has the capabilities of putting energy into every home, car, and airplane. It would be a small green box called E-Cat, which can be produced inexpensively that could literary change the energy sources in the world (Anthony, 2014). In inexpensive power source would be equal access for consumers worldwide because it does not cost billions to produce this Cold Fusion power source. The technology is sustainable and realistic because the research has already been tested in the real world.
