This company’s plan to effectively integrate energy efficient resources and green products that are not only good for the environment but highly cost-effective is an excellent plan.  The company has made very strong proposals to lower the overall operating budget by purchasing energy efficient materials.  Many of the ideas are very strong and are currently used by many other companies in the same industry as well as other industries in order to address the issues caused by the poor economy.  For instance, the switch to fluorescent and incandescent lights for the exit signs that are always on will help save on electric and the unnecessary costs of purchasing new lights as they burn out.  Also, the idea to purchase Energy Star washing machines is a very strong idea.  The costs of cleaning and electricity are two of the highest costs for any hotel, so these are important areas that the management team should look to save on costs.

However, the math on the savings appears to be incorrect in several of the proposed areas.  It is important that any individual associated with the company receives the most accurate information, so the company is encouraged to re-evaluate all of the figures once again.  Specifically, by multiplying 20 loads of laundry per day by $1.125, it actually uses a misleading figure as the earlier costs were said to be $11.25.  Also, very little accounting is shown to support the immediate purchase of computers and mobile application technology to save in paper costs.  It is believed that the company spends less in purchasing paper and printing than the costs and potential long-term debt that the company would suffer by purchasing such technology.  These ideas are excellent, but not all guests will have mobile devices for the technology and some elderly guests still are unaware of how to properly use a computer.  A well-equipped IT staff would need to be on site to address any computer failures or potential viruses, which again will cost the company more money than what is believed to be saved.  The management staff must brainstorm any and all potential future costs for purchasing and maintaining these IT suggestions before pursuing their initial purchase.  The exact costs in purchasing supplies must be compared to these potential costs in order to justify such a purchase.
