Terms of Endearment, Movie Review Example

The movie ‘Terms of Endowment’ is a romantic comedy produced in 1983 and based on Novel authored by Mcmurtry Larry. The movie (book) is based on a case where a mother, Aurora (MacLaine Shirley) and her daughter Emma (Winger Debra) went out in search of love. Emma, the daughter discloses how challenging it is starting off with her marriage. The better part of the movie focuses on the reasons that made them to venture out for love and joyful life. Aurora eventually lands on Garret Breedlove (Nicholson Jack), a former astronaut. Emma unfortunately fell sick and was diagnosed with cancer. Towards the end of the movie film, the two show love in surprisingly diverse ways.

In the earlier edition of the story as a novel, the character jack Nicholson does not feature instead Burt Reynolds fills in the part. It is believed that due to some other commitments he handed over the role to Garner James, who immediately differed with the director over issues regarding the interpretations. The scenes of hospital in the film track were actually cast in the Lincoln hospital (Currently BryanLGH) in Nebraska.

The movie was a heat in the early 1980s despite being on a mono soundtrack. It was later remixed to the DVD release by Surround Dolly. The film was considered by the critics with 89 percent chart rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was indeed regarded as a vastly enthusiastic review and pointed out as possible winner for Best Picture in the 1983 Oscars. However influential people such as Rebecca Gilman, the playwright refuted the sequence of its plot especially on the part where Emma is diagnosed with cancer terming it as a “shortcut play”. However despite the criticism, Terms of Endearment went ahead to scoop four Golden Globes Awards and five Academy Awards.
