The Clinical Scholar in Doctoral Advanced Nursing Practice, GCSE Coursework Example

Advanced education at the Doctoral level enables nurses to become effective and influential leaders within the practice environment and to experience full engagement in addressing healthcare needs and opportunities. The emergence of clinical scholarship is a critical area of this process and demonstrates the importance of research-based knowledge and initiatives to support practice growth and evolution (Gonzales & Esperat, 2011).  The primary essentials of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing are instrumental in advancing the objectives of nursing practice and in the application of education and research-based knowledge to transform the healthcare system (AACN, 2006; Magnan, 2013).

For the proposed initiative involving electronic cigarettes, it is important to address the knowledge and resources that are required to accomplish the intended objectives of the practice environment and to engage DNP-prepared nurses in supporting new policies that will govern this initiative with the intent to change the public’s mind regarding this product. DNPs must be prepared to address these concerns and promote the initiative in a professional manner, thereby creating a public policy agenda that will have a lasting impact on public health. The influences of these practices will demonstrate the importance of advancing practice models and legislation to influence consumer perceptions of the initiative and its impact on their health (Mund, 2014). Evidence-based practice objectives must also be considered as part of a larger framework to accommodate patient needs and to demonstrate the value of shaping new interventions to influence policy in a positive manner (Bowen et.al, 2009). In this context, nursing as a science collides with policies and regulations in order to positively impact public health. This knowledge will translate into positive and meaningful choices to support the quality of life of many people and has a larger objective to influence their decision-making regarding issues of importance to their health and wellbeing.
