Being the child of an immigrant has made me feel like life was a little harder for me than it was for anyone else because of the sense I was trying to make of it.

On the one hand, there were an advantage or two to being the child of an immigrant. One of them was that I learned what it meant to work hard for what I get or what I have, this also made me appreciate things that I got that much more. It can be argued that being the child of an immigrant make me appreciate things that I get more than other people because of my upbringing which is a great part of that aspect, working hard for what I get was how I was raised. Another advantage to being the child of an immigrant is that certain beliefs that most people ignore, I take to heart. Take discipline for example, because of the way I grew up being the child of an immigrant, all the tension I felt forced me to acquire and work toward keeping myself disciplined; having a strong sense of discipline has taught me to think more clearly than most people would in situations that require discipline.

However, just as there are advantages to my descent, there are disadvantages as well. For one, continuously working toward self-improvement is a constant goal for me. It is something that I feel I will always need to do. Another disadvantage to being the child of an immigrant is how different I’ll always feel than other people, this I believe will always cause me to erect a barrier or guard myself around other people because of my continued failure of being able to relate to them; I’ll always feel like I am alone.
