Throughout My Life, Personal Statement Example

Throughout my life I have always felt a passion for justice and making people’s lives better. As a consequence, I wish to become a political science major so I can gain a greater understanding of how the law contributes to the ability to bring order and righteousness to our lives. My ultimate goal is to become a lawyer so I can learn the skills I learned as an undergraduate student to truly help others. I believe that my education as a political science in your program will give me the critical thinking skills and general knowledge I require to achieve my goal.

I was born in Korea and went on several mission trips to countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic which has given me a rich international background and a passion for helping people living in unfortunate situations. I have been able to use the strengths I’ve acquired from this experience in other aspects of my live as well, such as tutoring children in both educational and artistic skills. My experiences abroad have allowed me to never be fearful and appreciate my interactions with people. This has enabled me to achieve many educational and leadership roles such as landing on the academic honor roll for three semesters, being awarded outstanding citizenship, varsity letter in marching band, leader of a Korean youth group, president of the broadcasting club, and treasurer of the international club.

To determine whether political science is the correct field for me, I’ve taken several college level courses including business law, comparative politics, and modern Japanese. I wish to further these skills by taking higher level courses that will reinforce and add to what I have learned. I believe that education is highly important as a consequence I wish to use these skills to help others gain an advantage in life that I did not have the luxury of experiencing as a child. I believe that my knowledge of languages, international experience, and information gained from college level courses will bolster my success as a political science student in your program.
