According to the author, coaching is a very important role in football as it facilitates in enhancement of safety and performance while reducing the chances for injury during the game. The role of a coach entails giving directions, training as well as instructions that are relevant in the operations of a team of football players. Coaching is a very important aspect of youth football because an effective coach is able to develop the technical skills of the players and thus improve their performance (Cassidy, 2008). The goal of the game is to derive enjoyment as well as a fair play while avoiding physical confrontation among the players. Recent developments in coaching have centered on the development of coaching structures for the youth that aim and fostering skills development and enjoying the game rather than just winning the game.

The author also documents that, a coach has an important role in the creation of a game plan. This involves precise instructions on the anticipated actions of the player at the time of the game. The coach decides the number of players for every position in the field such as the midfielder, the forwarder, the goal keeper and the defenders. The numbers are based on the maximum number of players permitted in the field at any one time. The coach also decides the position and time that a particular player will play (Jones, 2007).

The coach must also address the concerns of the parent concerning the playing time of a child. The parents must also appreciate the fact that the best decisions of a coach are usually made in the best team in the field. The performance of the child must be communicated to the parent by the coach.
