What Role Would Samford Play in Your Future? Admission Essay Example

When I first decided to attend college, I believed that it was impossible to have a school with great academics, but still genuinely cared about the success of each student. I do believe that Samford University makes both of those possible.  I have come to discover that religious beliefs are the core foundations of many students. The many people that I have talked to about religious beliefs have conveyed to me that being at a Christian college, I know I want be faced with obstacles that may require me to sacrifice who I am and what I believe in order to be successful.

I didn’t grow up in a Christian family; I am a foreign student. Honestly, I didn’t know much about Christianity. However, I have met many friends who convey that their faith is much more profound than just having the title of Christian. I want to further my further my knowledge about Christianity. My friends who are Christian have relayed to me that their  overall goal is to help win souls for Christ. I believe I will be able to do that at Samford. I know that Christian students can be found at all universities, but I believe I would benefit more from being surrounded by students and staff that have these core values because they will value me as an individual . These students and staff will help to encourage me spiritually and academically. The people that we are around have a great influence on us. The family at Samford will have a positive influence on me.

I decided to transfer from my present college because over the years I have watched several of my friends resort to questionable behavior.  Many students attend secular schools confident that they will be able to maintain there faith anywhere. So many are saddened to find out that they cannot maintain their Christian ideologies. After seeing this happen over and over again, I must say that I am afraid that I too may be swayed into questionable behaviors. I have maintained a 2.9 GPA, but I know that I can do so much better. Although I have not participated in any questionable behaviors, I feel I need a stronger foundation before entering the real world. I thought that I would be able to maintain my beliefs, but I have found that a have a deep yearning to know more about the religion of Christianity.

I intend to major in Economics at Samford University. I believe Samford is a great place for me to get a realistic view of the world, as well as Christ’s connection to every aspect of the world. I believe that one is only able to survive in the world if he/she knows how to fit religion into all aspects of his/her life. By having Christian educators, I know that they will be able to relate Christian views to real life situations. They will also be able to speak from personal experience of being a Christian. This will be so helpful because so often it gets difficult to see how religion plays a role in the world when so much chaos is going around us.

The career options for an Economics major are almost limitless. Having this degree is ideal because it stresses critical thinking skills. These skills are stressed more in Economics than any other major. Communication is another important aspect of Economics. I want to use my work as and economic consultant to help third world nations. Serving as a consultant will be a double duty profession for me. I will have the chance to help people succeed financially. Most importantly to me, I will have the opportunity to convey to others the experience I have had with my own religious growth.

I believe Samford is the university for me because of its Christian values and outstanding academic track record. Samford is a smaller university, so I know that I will be more than just a number in the back of someone’s classroom. Having Christian educators is important to me because I know that they will have my best interest in mind. For Christian educators, teaching is a calling not just a job and that concept benefits all students.
