A Review of the Article What Explains the
Paradox of an Improving Economy and Miserable Voters
Released in November 12, 2o15 by writer Josh Zumbrun in the economy section of the Wall Street Journal, the article entitled What Explains the Paradox of an Improving Economy and Miserable Voters presents an interesting analysis of why voters see the situation in the American society to be less than satisfying given the good economic statistics garnered from research and presented to the public. Instead of giving attention to the economic status solely, this article considers a focus on how the thoughts and behaviors of individuals actually affect the overall condition of the way the economy is viewed by the public.
The author basically offers a clear distinction on the thought that at some point, behavior is everything. Another idea presented in the article is that the series of events that happened in history basically shapes the thinking and practically influences the behavior of individuals especially in viewing matters in either the positive or the negative aspects of the situations they face. In terms of the economy, the American society has long been under a particular system that celebrates the existence of commercial operations and the way they strongly establish the whole backbone for the country’s economy. Noticeably, the same system is also able to create a more defined option on how economic segregation happens in the country; especially in relation to measuring the rate of contribution each person makes to support the said system of commercial advancement and how huge the benefits they are able to get from such constituted forms of exchanging values.
Suggesting that behavior is one of the key reasons behind the rise and fall of economies, the author was able to create a profound indication on how the thinking of the people could direct the overall context of the economy; that even when the economy is at a better pace of progress, the belief of the people based on a more pessimistic view could weaken the trust that the people have on the economy and the government that guides its plan of growth. This is why voters are gaining lesser confidence on the administrational platforms presented to them by any particular presidential candidate, thinking that he would just be the same as others. Gaining such idea from a pattern of events, this thought gets carried on from generation to generation and is expected to dictate the standing of the American political administration setup.
Overall, the article is a good read presenting an interesting vision of how matters are affected by the thinking and attitude of the people. What makes a good sense of proper behavior is that when it comes to determining progress, the way people understand the situations plays a great role on how real forms of development would actually create a progressive form of growth for a nation. True, behavior is one element that makes up humanity, and it is also a social compass that leads a whole unit of community towards a more defined distinction [especially dedicated towards advancement and intensified form of improvement that fosters a unified action towards a better future]. True, when people think positively, they would be able to make good out of every failure or disappointment they may be encountering; on the other hand, if people think positively, then it might be impossible for any positive progress to get noticed as mere disappointments tend to rule over anything that has been a good sense of governance through generations.
