Bullies, Article Review Example

The article presents information regarding bullying and how it relates to parents.  According to the article, many parents are unaware to recognize this behavior in their children (Italie).  In regards to the negative effects that can develop in children who display such behavior, parents are being warned regarding such fallacies in order to prevent these aggressive behaviors.

Shure identifies a number of negative effects of bullies, such as teasing, insulting, and controlling behavior that can lead to extreme circumstances (Shure).  For instance, one high school freshman hanged herself after enduring these types of behaviors.  The negative traits that accompany such behavior are easily seen to be counterproductive within ones set of peers.

Parents have been demonstrated to have a difficult time in the implications of bullying.  Parents are oblivious, unwilling to deal with their children, or display a number of reactions that does not address the situation, according to Shure.  For instance, some parents think that they’ll grow out of the behavior.  Some parents even condone such activity, as long as their child receives positive attention from his or her friends.  Additionally, the emotions of the parent are seen in its complexity, in reaction to aggressive interactions in which their children display.

The article gives a wide range of implications for families.  It is most important that parents are aware of the signs of the behaviors.  Additionally, parents must be able to understand why this behavior should not be tolerated, and why it must be addressed and not ignored.  Families should be aware of the signs, implications, dynamics, and techniques to address such behavior if it becomes relevant.
