My Background in Business and Accounting, Admission Essay Example

My interest in accounting and finance has roots in early years of my childhood. My father is a Ph. D in business and finance from the University of Minnesota. He has been a great source of inspiration for me. With time, the passion for accounting and finance grew and become even stronger. Following the footprints of my father, I decided to make my carrier in business finance. To this end, I did my bachelors in accounting. In B.S. accounting, I studied accounting subjects such as business finance, financial accounting etc., with great care and achieved very good grades in them. From my pedagogy in college; I learnt that financial knowledge is very important for making effective decisions, in both personal and professional life. In addition, I came to know that accounting information is not only useful for intra company management but it also carries great significance for satisfying the needs of many stakeholders such as investors, suppliers, customers and the general public, in the organizational life. After completing my graduation, I joined a firm, P.A.A.E.T (The Public Authority for applied education and training) as an Accountant. At work, my main job responsibilities were first to maintain General Journal accounts and to assist my boss in the formulation of financial statements. Not only this, at occasions, I also need to calculate different financial ratios such as liquidity and asset management ratios etc. I also worked on spreadsheets such as MS excel and have hands on experience in using these tools with special emphasis on data analysis.

From my professional experience, I learned that decisions taken just on the basis of intuition and without financial knowledge are mostly erroneous. I concluded one thing from my financial career that one cannot manage business unless one cannot measure it and without the in-depth knowledge of accounting and finance, one cannot manage the business in today’s world for sure.
