My Nursing School Dream: NYU, Admission Essay Example

Going to school at NYU has always been a dream of mine. I have envisioned myself as a strong, independent person walking down the Manhattan streets while holding a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing under my belt, from the one and only NYU. I am ready to take on the world. My family and extended family have not had the opportunity to attend such a college and further their education. I want to make not only myself proud, but my family proud as well. It is an honor that I even have the chance at the opportunity to attend such a prestigious University.

I have chosen NYU as my University of choice due to the respected Nursing school reputation, as well as its respected overall reputation. In addition, NYU has several campuses to choose from. I decided to pursue a degree in Nursing from NYU because I want to help people. It is my passion. I am also interested in extending my education to a Master’s degree in Nursing after my Bachelor’s degree and I believe that NYU can help me obtain those goals.

My family has always been a great part of my life. My parents have encouraged and supported me for as long as I can remember. My childhood was surrounded by positive people always telling me that I was going to be either a nurse or a doctor because I loved to help people and was always interested in hospitals and medical knowledge. Whether it was a fellow little leaguer that fell and received a wound or a neighbor who scratched her knee while riding her bike, I was the first one at the scene to offer my assistance. My mother would say, “You know, you are going to be a Nurse someday!”

When I was 15 years old, my aunt gave birth to my little cousin. I went to the hospital to visit my cousin and entering the maternity ward, I realized that this is my passion and this is what I want to do. I want to be a pediatric curse. The care and comfort that the nurses give to both the mother and infant were astonishing. Being part of bringing new life into this world everyday was something that I could treasure and be proud of. From then on, my goals were to complete high school to my fullest and focus my college career on Nursing.

I am currently attending Adelphia; however, I feel that in order to become the most successful and well-rounded Nurse I can be, I need to finish my degree from NYU. I take the Nursing profession seriously and in order for individuals to trust me with their care, I need to learn form a school that I can trust with my education. That school is NYU.

I can only hope to further my education at NYU and I know no matter what I do in life, my family will support me; however, going to NYU would make me proud of myself. I love New York and I feel that I belong there. It is a busy city with a lot of energy, just like me. There is such a well diverse background of cultures and people; therefore, I can learn not only how to be a Nurse, but how to understand different cultural backgrounds. Understanding different cultures and being able to connect with patients is such an important part of Nursing.

At NYU, I am also interested in joining as many different clubs or organizations as possible, within and beyond the Nursing department. I heard many outstanding things about the different majors in the College of Arts and Sciences and I am eager to attend as many classes and learn from the renowned professors who instruct at NYU.

I am extremely eager to learn and I have such a positive energy to bring to one of your campuses. I believe strongly that I will be a great student at NYU. Not only will I learn to be a Nurse, but I will learn about different cultures, arts, and the role of being independent. These attributes will help me become a successful Nurse after I leave NYU, where I hope to be a role model for other eager Nursing students. If accepted, my goal is to purse my Nursing degree and further my education to a Master’s degree while becoming the independent person that I dream of.
