Push by Sapphire, Speech Example

Pages: 1

Words: 350

Speech

Every individual has a desire to be better, to be someone that is well-appreciated by everyone else. However, this desire often only comes to those who have been well-placed in the society, given proper support and defined alongside a good source of education. Precious, the main character of Sapphire’s novel ”Push”, on the other hand was not given such provision of support. Besides that, she was even made to face a difficult time of being pregnant at an early age while she was still n school. These challenges she met with however made her stronger, a woman who becomes more strong-willed to define her being not only for herself but for her child as well.

Being an African-American, precious was already accustomed to realize the rejection from the society. However, when it came from her own family, she knew it would be harder to deal with. Feeling alone, facing the need to bear and practically support her second child, Precious decides to straighten up her path. Ms. Rain, her teacher in the alternative class she was attending made her realize that she still has that chance of making things better. Through helping her engage in good self-learning process, she was able to express herself in writing. Although her process of writing was not at all excellent, it led her to the path of understanding who she is and realizing her potentials as a person. She began to realize what her worth is thus gaining the confidence she needed to stand up again.

Utilizing imagery and the direct correlation of misspelled words on the writings of Precious, Sapphire creates a communicative definition on how an underprivileged person such as Precious does have a great chance of making things better in life. With the support of those who really are sincere in assisting her and her personal desire to improve her being, Precious’ character intends to define what particular will humans need to have in order to reach their goals and be specifically satisfied with the results of their efforts.
