Tribute, Speech Example

Note to Customer,

This subject material is a little intense, but in your order comments, you said you wanted a tribute and something “killer” that might make your instructor cry.  I think this should do it.

I drove you home from the hospital.  You were so tiny.  It took your whole hand just to squeeze my finger.  You grew so fast.  Before long, I was picking you up from kindergarten. You were so proud of your crayon drawings.  Pointing to a curious figure, you would say; “That’s you dad.” I would praise your work and when we got home, post it straight away on the refrigerator.

By little league, you were so much the man.  You with your uniform and that great big mit!  When you would strike out, you would come to me with your head down and eyes full of tears. I would give you a hug and tell you how bad a ball player I was as a kid.  We would laugh and stop on the way home for an ice cream.

There was so much I wanted to tell you. There would be that awkward time to talk about girls, your first kiss, and sex. Your first job would lead to a discussion of budgets, banks and money. When you graduated college, I would tell you to work hard and never compromise your principles for money. There would be marriage and children of your own.

I thought that maybe, upon my passing, you might stand and say with a tear or two, a few words about how much we meant to each other.

There was so much I wanted to tell you… so much about life and living. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. I never dreamed I would have to tell you goodbye. But God is your father now.  Farewell my son…
