United States of America is a country full of possibilities, and it is in the forefront in passing crazy laws. Believe it or not, there are hundreds and thousands of crazy laws still in existence that exceed the understanding of the ordinary mind. With reference to where the laws are applicable, let me share some of the craziest laws in the United States.
One of the craziest laws in Kentury states that it is illegal for any female to emerge on a public road in a bathing outfit, except if she has escort by at least officers or she is carrying a club as weapon. However, this law only applies for females weighing between 90 and 200 pounds. In addition, there is the law stating that an individual who has been consuming alcohol for some time is still sober until the point where the person can no longer hold on to the ground (Allen, 2005).
One of the widely practiced laws on the road in many states across the US is driving too slowly. When Pennsylvania, state law dictates that you stop after a mile to launch a rocket signal (Paul, 2007). A police officer can ask a driver to pull over his/her car for driving too slowly. One can easily get a ticket for creating a road hazard or blocking traffic through slow driving. The reasons given for slow driving is that the car could be having a problem or the driver could be having an impairment, both of which warrants attention by a police officer. If one is driving on a highway with a maximum speed of 45(mph) and drives at 10(mph), without any good reason, one is considered to be impending traffic.
Another interesting crazy law in Collinsville prohibits putting on sagging pants. It requires that pants be held on the waste securely, to avoid pants from falling 3inches below the hips, which in return causes exposure of the wearer’s undergarments. However, this law only applies to pants worn on publicly. This is a crazy law considering that the current fashion trend is sagging.
Another crazy law still in use in the united stated prohibits impersonating a person of the clergy. When one pretends to be a minister of any religion, it is punishable by jailing for one year or a fine of $500. Another crazy law prohibits playing dominoes on Sundays. Blue Laws are those put in place specifically to disallow certain activities on Sundays, or “God’s Day” (Paul, 2007). A person will also not compel his child or servant carry out any labor except the habitual domestic duties on a Sunday. Moreover, one will not perform acts of charity, hunting, card playing or gaming on a Sunday (Linz & Griego, 2002). A merchant will also not keep his shop or store open on a Sunday. Performing any of the above acts attracts a fine not exceeding $100 but not less than $10. It is also against the law to put on a fake moustache likely to make people laugh in a church.
In Alabama, there are many crazy rules, which are still in use. One of such crazy rule requires that women can keep all their property they acquired before marriage, but this does not apply to men. It is also unlawful for a man to seduce a lady by way of deception, promise of marriage, arts, and temptations. Moreover, it is unlawful for a husband to strike his wife with a stick with a larger diameter than his thumb. Incestuous marriages are unlawful, but kids of incestuous partners are legitimate.
In Arkansas, a man is legally allowed to beat up his wife but limited to once a month. It is illegal for two people to hold hands while on a doorway unless the two people are members of a union. In addition, men and women are not permitted to flirt on the streets of Little Rock, and breaking the law attracts a jail term for 30days. The legislature of Arkansas passed a law prohibiting the Arkansas River from rising above Main Street Bridge.
In California, there is a ban on animals mating publicly, within 1,500 feet of a place of worship, school or tavern. Peacocks have the right of way in all the Arcadia streets without the exceptions of driveways. Moreover, it is illegal to transport two thousand sheep or more from Hollywood. It is also fascinating to be acquainted with the fact that one needs a hunting license to set a mousetrap (Linz & Griego, 2002). Still in California, it is unlawful for a husband to beat the wife without her consent with a strap or stick thicker than 2 inches. In addition, it is unlawful for one to wash two babies in a single bathtub at the same time. It is also unlawful for two people to kiss unless one of the persons cleans the lips with carbonized water.
Currently, it is easy to misinterpreted and misunderstand these rules based on the present time standards, but at the time of passing them, these laws had meanings applicable to such times. Most of the strange-sounding laws are passed to keep people safe. Others are meant to stop the practice of killing, abandoning, and harming animals. One thing we cannot ignore is that these laws are still in use, however, crazy they sound.
