Exhaust Pollution in Hong Kong, Speech Example

Pages: 1

Words: 360

Speech

According to government reports, vehicle emissions are the major source of air pollution in Hong Kong. There is immediate cause for concern because these pollutants can cause health concerns and significantly raise the temperature of the local environment. Last year, more than 150,000 people were hospitalized as a result of disease related to the poor air quality and approximately 3,000 died from the same cause. The medical expenses for these individuals totaled HK$39.4 billion, indicating that there is a huge financial cost of continuing to live in this polluted environment. Therefore, immediate action must be taken in order to ensure that the health of Hong Kong’s citizens improve.

We must consider that dense urban populations often require many transportation options in order for its citizens and products to be brought from one place to another. Therefore, the area is filled with busses for commuters and diesel trucks for product delivery. While these vehicles are deemed both necessary and convenient, they release large amounts of particulates and nitrogen oxides. It is important to take action to reduce the number of these chemicals in the environment so the air quality in Hong Kong can be returned to a normal state.

The government cannot succeed in its attempt to reduce pollution levels if we all do not act as well. It is our responsibility to the people of Hong Kong to make changes in our daily lives that will support the well-being of all. This is therefore a call to action for immediate change. Today is the day that we can begin reducing the chemicals in our air. It is our responsibility to inform our friends and family about the steps they can take in order to make these changes a reality. If we act right now, we will be able to save lives. If we continue to act, we will be able to change our future.
